Fix up or upgrade your old Wen-Mac Texaco Tanker with these new replacement parts.

Have you lost a deck screw for your Texaco Tanker? Or you're just unhappy with a rusty original? Secure your decks with this new stainless steel screw!
Screw has the same Phillips head drive as the original, and same major diameter and thread pitch (important to avoid cross-threading the hole).
The screw is 1/8 inch longer than the original. This is fine and works without modification on 9 of the 10 screw positions. For the screw retaining the front of the aft house, you can:
Cut or grind 1/8" off the screw
Drill the receiving hole in the main deck through with a 3/32" drill bit. Then you can just run the screw in the extra 1/8".
For all of your deck screws: Avoid over-tightening! But stripped holes can be repaired. My process is:
Drill the boss out with a 5/32" drill bit;
Get some 5/32" round styrene rod, such as from Evergreen or Plastruct. This needs to be drilled 3/32"... 5/32" styrene tubing may make the job easier.
Cut off a suitable piece and glue into the hole with standard styrene cement for models. Allow to dry.
Run the self-tapping screw into the hole.
Note: In the photo, the new stainless screw
looks
skinnier than the original. But its threads' OD measures the same, and the pitch is the same, so the new screw fits the old tapped hole just fine.
