Description
In this installment of the video rails short lived Smithsonian steam series from 1992, there are vintage films of Union Pacific big boys, challengers, northerns, 2-10-2s, the 9000 series 4-12-2s, 2-8-0s, 0-6-0s, & even some early diesels from E & F units to turbines. Aside from the films, there is also a bunch of modern era footage of challenger 3985 before it’s conversion to oil in 1990, & even the never retired Northern 844 as 8444 due to the GP30 diesels being active to the railroad. These scenes are also used during production of other video rails & pentrex titles: last of the giants, volumes 2, 4, 6, 7, & 8 of the classic collector’s series, Union Pacific Steam ‘81, 3985 steam express (yet to be converted to DVD and/or blu-Ray), 44 years of 8444, 8444 rides again with SP daylight 4449, battle up Sherman hill, best of video rails part 1, turbines of the wasatch, Union Pacific’s mighty turbines, the UP big boy collection, & big boy 4014-greetings from Kansas City during the song of the 9000 series 4-12-2s. Plus during the vintage films in this program, half of these were shown in some titles by Greg Scholl video productions: big boys, & challengers, Union Pacific Steam classics volume 2, & 844 the early years.
Note: according to the bottom of the spines, the catalog code means that this was originally released as volume 9 of the video rails classic collectors series.
In the end credits, it’s copyright date is 1993, meaning that this program along with the SP version was made at the transition of 1992 into 1993.
With lots of unforgettable films from various cinematographers: perry Becker, Bruce ward, J. Allen Hawkins, Stan Kistler, William lambert, Henry Hank Griffith, George llamas, & others, John Leslie did a marvelous job narrating this recently turned 30 year old videotape which just like the southern pacific version, is also yet to be converted to DVD and/or blu-Ray by pentrex.
