SS FRANCE Model - 1250 Meccano DINKY SUPERTOY Plastic & DieCast in caseGetting harder to find in PERFECT condition, but this ship IS, EXCEPT for the
clear case - which I have yet to see an undamaged one. End cracks are due to the
knife-like ends of the ship striking the case (Originally packed UNRESTRAINED, but
there was top-of-the-funnel packing which stopped VERTICAL movement) but
having ineffective absorptive materials on those pointy ends did-in most of the cases.
There is some glue where a side had partially separated from one end (apparently where the
blunter stern must have REALLY impacted) and glue used to reinforce the center of the
"star" crack where the bow penetrated.
I took great care here when I first acquired the model as I knew if left uncorrected,
the loose side would further separate and create bigger issues.....and the case would
never mate securely with the base. I trust you'll approve of the repairs.
The case is plastic and has some MINOR scrape marks, most from Life experiences,
but some caused by the bridge wings as the ship bounced a bit during original shipping
AND you'll also see some residual marks from the original tape that held the case on
the base (what else?) You'll see they cut the case very TIGHT to the ship! However
the
case has NOT YELLOWED at all
and is in exceptional condition all things considered.
The pics DO make it appear worse than it is....I used reflective light to bring out the
worse BUT I think you'll find it MUCH BETTER than the pics.
No original box (THEY are RARE) but the model comes in a custom box I constructed
similar to a MERCATOR box (remove box from the ship) and contains shock absorbing
materials to prevent further damage. I built the box both for Shipping and Storage.
These materials, if you wish, can be removed without issue to allow the model to be
displayed in the case unobstructed.
When removing or handling the ship with case, DO NOT just grasp ONLY the clear case,
you MUST hold the base SECURE as well. In addition, the model & case will only be
SECURE if you SECURE the lid on the box when picking it up / moving it around. You
will find a note to that affect on the box and a twisty wire securing the top.
The inside-the-case-end protectors ARE NOT attached to the ship or case and are
easily pulled out. They may even come out as you lift off the clear case (they are
feather light so if they fall and hit the ship they are too light to cause damage),
but be advised they are a TIGHT FIT making them somewhat tricky to re-insert.
Advice: Set boat on base, insert the case-end protectors in the CASE (with foam
toward boat) then slide the case over the boat and over the base inset (this takes
a bit of wiggling/finessing maybe even 2 people)....be gentle, that glue is NOT as
strong as the original structure.....AND.....don't forget the funnel foam.
Underside of the Base has the Ship Description, and the keel is removeable to give you
a wheel'd toy or displayable waterline model typical of these size ship models.
Hull proper (black) is diecast metal, the keel (red), superstructure, funnels, masts and
propellers are ALL plastic. No, they didn't go as far to model the pair of 5-blade props - all
are 4-blades. And another No is that they didn't detail the upper "ventilator" masts,
never there ever - shame.
Please review the pictures, I've done my best to show the good and minor bads accurately.
And taking pictures of flaws in something that is clear is a nightmare.
Model will be shipped in its box (11x2x3) you see and then packed in another box (15x8x7)
well insulated from jarring.
Thanks for looking.
