A 60 minute CD of sound taken in real time during the 1970's. This rare sound was captured using portable GE stereo recording equipment, often utilizing separated wind michrophones on tripods, etc. The sequences (tracks) on this CD were taken from a collection of over 1000 hours of preserved, and cataloged audio from this era. Look for more audio subjects from this collection. This particular CD SEABOARD COAST LINE DIESELS Vol. 2 is the 2nd CD devoted exclusively to the SCL railway and its diesels. This CD was taken just prior to the SCL/Family Lines/Seaboard System folding into the CSX. This is the last SCL sound we recorded, as pure SCL/Family Lines/Seaboard Sys, although many of the locomotives went on to become stalwarts of CSX and could be seen and recorded for years after 1980.
Track 1: Starts out in the Waycross station where we catch a southbound freight with 2 Big U boats U30C/C30-7 as it rumbles through town.
Track 2: Next is a Northbound freight with 4 U36B (green)/U30B s as it pulls into WC yard with a long empty coal train.
Track 3: another southbound freight (loaded coal) with 3 new Big U boats (U30Cs) pulls in for a crew change and leaves.
Track 4: Next up is amainline freight with U30B/U33B/U30C.
Track 5: is a series of cuts. First we catch the NB Autotrain with 4 Big GEs on the point. Next a SB freight with SD35/U30B/U30B/GP40. Then a NB Amtrak with an SCL GP35 on the point helping out. . Then after a while a northbound pig with U33B/GP40/GP40, followed closely by yet another northbound with U30C/GP40/GP40.
Track 6: is another series of cuts starting with a northbound pig with U30B/U33B. Then the northbound Autotrain with 4 Big GE’s is passed by The speeding NB Silver Meteor (F40’s). Last on this track is a SB frt with U30B/GP35/GP40/GP40
Track 7: is a series of cuts with yet another parade of freights. First a southbound with SDP35/GP35/U30B/U33B is followed by a Northbound freight w 3 U30C’s. Next Amtrak’s NB Silver meteor.
Track 8: NB freight with 3 U30Bs. This is followed by Amtrak’s Southbound Silver meteor. Then we catch a long southbound loaded coal train with U30B/U30B/GP40//GP35.
Track 9: We catch a fast SB pig with the U30B/U30B/GP40. Then a SB junk train led by GP40/GP30/U30B. Next Amtrak’s NB Silver Meteor, followed by a southbound freight with U30C/GP40/GP40.
Track 10: starts with a NB freight with SD35/SD35/GP40 followed by yet another southbound with GP35/GP40/U33B. After a while we catch a slow northbound freight with SD35/GP40/U30B/U33B and finally an Alco C430 (Ex Demonstrator) moving about in Waycross yd.
This was the SCL era of big power (for that time) and big trains.. If you are a fan of the SCL this CD is for you.
