Rare ADS 2002 Namakichi 350 portable suitcase system in original case

Your chance to own a piece of audio history! This is the legendary "suitcase" portable stereo system, with ADS 2002 self-powered biamped speakers and a Nakamichi 350 cassette recorder fitted to a heavy-duty suitcase.
I was working in a retail stereo store back in the late 1970's when Nakamichi and ADS collaborated to produce these unique portable music systems. They were so different and so cool, and more importantly sounded so good that they really made an impression on me. I've collected a number of other ADS components and speakers since then along with various Nakamichi decks but couldn't resist buying this sad, beat-up suitcase system when it showed up on eBay several years ago. I put it away in my garage for a future project but lately have gotten tired of having to walk around it - plus, along the way I have also bought the same components separately in WAY better condition (mint boxed 2002 system, and a few different clean 350 or 250 decks). At this point I am ready for it to become someone else's fun project.
Despite how dirty this stuff looks, I think it has a lot of upside. First, the deck is a 350 which records as well as playing back tapes; many of these systems came with the 250 playback-only deck but this one has the upgrade 350 in it. The deck itself should clean up very well, the 2002 power supply is cosmetically decent, and the speakers mainly need their grills stripped/straightened/repainted to make those presentable as well. And, this particular system has the nice formed plastic inner piece for the bottom of the case that the components fit in; in other examples of this system, I've seen fitted foam which is always gooey and crumbling at this age, whereas the plastic for this one is in great shape. The bad new: the suitcase itself is pretty beat up, with some rust in places and that one heavily cracked corner with a missing piece of the outer skin. Possibly someone that's good at fixing plastic bumpers etc. can do something with that but it's not in my wheelhouse. Also I think you will need to do some surgery to put the harness back into full working condition, but there are some odds and ends of parts in the case - I think the previous owner had that plan as well. I have actually never tried to sort out whether that harness is all there or what condition it's in, as mentioned I just bought it and put it away and that was it.
I will also supply a CD that has a bunch of different files covering these components, incl. the owner's guide for the 2002 system, schematic and complete service manual for the 2002 system, install guide for the 2002 speakers & deck, service lit on the 350 (service manual and service bulletin), various other marketing docs etc.
I can include the 2002 owner's guide, but I think the 350 OG is available online somewhere; I'll add that too if I can locate it. Basically the disc will have all of the info you will need to service these components.
I will also include a diagram I made years ago that shows the pin-out for the 6-pin Cinch Jones connectors, which are still somewhat available if new parts end up being needed. It's fairly simple to attach the OEM cable (you can see that big coil in the pics) to these connectors. The way the harnessing works is there's a cable that plugs into the power supply that goes to the first speaker (it also has a breakout to go to the deck - the 2002 PS powers the speakers and the deck) and then another cable runs between the two speakers. The cables carry audio signal, the 12V supply wires, and a power-on signal from the deck such that pressing play on the deck turns the two speakers on.

I put many hours into supporting my customers and listings on eBay but am fitting all of that around a very heavy full-time work schedule. In the case of larger items shipped overseas, USPS Priority is currently the lowest cost service available. DHL & UPS are much, much higher. I will use First Class Mail International where possible but it has a weight cut-off of 4 lbs. There is no longer a surface shipment option, as USPS eliminated Surface Parcel Post last year.
I use recycled packaging materials when I can, because I believe it is the environmentally sound thing to do.
I also use new USPS Priority & other packaging materials to supplement the recycled materials where appropriate.
I’m always very careful to make sure the item being shipped is properly protected regardless of the type of packing materials used.
