Description
For the next half hour, this Un-narrated videotape features 8mm films by not only former Railpace magazine editor Mr. Tom Nemeth but also Mr. Phil Imbro, & Mr Wilson Jones with a bunch of diesels (especially Budd Cars) on these fallen flag road names: Jersey central, reading rambles, Lehigh valley, Norfolk & Western, & Baltimore & Ohio. There is also a cameo shot of camelback 10 wheeler 774 in jersey city as well as a couple of scenes of Nickel plate road 2-8-4 number 759 on a fan trip. Today the engine is on display at the steamtown National historic site in Scranton Pennsylvania, but at least sister engine 765 is operating in Indiana & beyond since 1979. Aside from the short steam clips on the CNJ, & NKP, there is also a cameo of T1 class 4-8-4 number 2100 at bound brook depot. Today the locomotive is still undergoing a really long restoration at Cleveland Ohio. Another surviving Reading locomotive seen in this program is GP30 number 5513 which used to operate on the hamburg to temple line, but today it’s on display at the reading railroad heritage museum at the hamburg station, even though the line to temple has since been blocked by really long lines of freight cars. One of the CNJ’s Alco RS3s are referenced to a Canadian National 10 wheeler on the Ohio central railroad. After the vintage films were finished, there is a 1987 trip to the blue mountain & reading as 5513 helps out with 2100’s sister engine 2102 which is recently restored to service on the reading & northern in port Clinton. On one scene, 2102 is passing by former Gulf Mobile & Northern 4-6-2 number 425 running tender first on the Hamburg to temple trips. The whole segment was captured by the late Marc S. Balkin himself.
After the closing credits, there is a trailer for another Mark 1 video title: the New York & long branch railroad with Pennsylvania railroad K4 class Pacifics in action.
This program was recorded on a T-30 RAKS brand tape.
