    Description

    Hello there.
In this lot, you’ll enjoy a 3 part look at the golden years of Southern Steam in the 1970s to the 1990s with Texas & Pacific 610, Canadian pacific royal Hudson 2839, Norfolk & Western 611, Southern 630, Nickel plate road 765, Southern 722, Chesapeake & Ohio 2716, & the main star of the Steam program that started it all back in 1966: Southern 4501. Plus there are a couple of steam locomotives in addition to the Southern Steam program: Grand trunk Western 4070, & Union Pacific 844 as 8444 between 1962-1989.
On disc 1-Southern 4501: 3 decades of excursions which was originally released in 1997, there is not only a segment on the 2-8-2 in 1973 which was taken from another green Frog show the rock island line (not to mention volume 2 of the top frog series), but there are also scenes that would never be repeated in the present times. For example, 4501 is being towed by a pair of Red & Black Western Maryland F Units at Helmstetter’s Curve, which is now the route of the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad between Cumberland & Frostburg. This program was shot by 4 camera crews: Emery Gulash, Jerry Carson, Carl Franz, & Charlie Brown for the 1995/1996 visit to the Lafayette Georgia line before it was extended to Summerville. After the end credits, a trick of the head on shot of 4501 in the 70’s was used as the Camera was facing the mirror on the tracks, then 4501 crashes into the Mirror. To add magic to this scene, a familiar Crash sound from the I Love Toy Trains Series by TM Books & Video was used.
On disc 2-70s & 80s Steam celebration which was made in 2003, there are a bunch of steam locomotives through the 8mm sound films of Mr. Terence Foshee: 4501, 610, 2839, 765, 611, & a short segment on 844/8444 which includes a bonus interview with steam driver, Mr. Bill Purdee as well as a still image montage.
And on disc 3-reflections of the 70s & 80s: Tennessee steam excursions which was made in 2013, there are even more 8mm sound films of 4501 & other steam locomotives, this time it’s from the collection of Mr. Tom Rock. On one segment, there is a ride behind 4501’s tender. Later on 630 & 722 makes a meet with 611 at the museum’s grand junction depot, as well as 630 making a meet with 2716.
Unfortunately the box holder is nowhere to be found but at least all of the discs are in their individual cases.
