A 60 minute CD of sound recorded in real time during the 1970s and 1980s on various railroads. There is nothing like a loaded train of iron ore, taconite pellets or coal to bring out the best in a l GE U series locomotive popular in that era. This particular CD GE U BOATS ON DRAGS is a collection of rail sounds taken from our extensive sound library. There is nothing quite so exciting as the bark of an FDL prime mover inside a GE U series locomotive working a heavy train.
Track 1: We are at Palmer, MA on Guilford’s west end where we hear as a EB coal drag leaves with 2 U23Bs and 2 U18Bs.
Track 2: We are on the LS&I and we catch a runby of an ore drag powered by a pair of ex Burlington Northern U30Cs.
Track 3: We are at East Altoona on the Pennsy where we hear 3 U25Cs start an EB coal drag.
Track 4: We are on Burlington Northern’s line out of the Powder River basin and we catch a coal drag with 4 U30Cs and an SD40 on the lead with an F45 and 3 U30Cs shoving hard at the rear.
Track 5: We are on Sand patch grade and we catch 3 U30Cs on a coal drag struggling upgrade.
Track 6: Still on Sand Patch we catch another set of 3 U33Cs on a coal drag.
Track 7: We are on the Seaboard Coast Line where we hear no less than 5 U18Bs hauling a long potash train out of Florida’s Bone Valley.
Track 8:  We are on Pennsy’s famous Bennington Curve just west of the Horseshoe where we catch a WB coal drag with a mix of U30Cs and U25Cs on the head end and a pair of U33Cs shoving hard at the rear. The helpers really bark on the grade to Gallitzin.
Track 9: We are on the New York Central and we hear 4 U36B demonstrators hauling 100 loaded coal cars. Recorded from an overhead bridge.
Track 10: We are on the LS&I and we catch a runby with a hard working pair of ex BN U30Cs.
Track 11: We are still on the  LS&I and we catch a pair of ex BN U30Cs as they drift by light headed to the yard. Then we hear them leave with a loaded ore drag.
Track 12: We are on the Pennsy and we catch an ore drag leaving Enola with 3 U25Cs in charge.
Track 13:  We are still on the Pennsy and we hear a set of 3 U25Cs with whining dynamic brakes as the wind around the Horseshoe curve.
Track 14: We are at Guilford’s East Deerfield yard and we hear 4 Penn Central U30Cs leave with an EB empty coal train.
Track 15: Still on the Pennsy at Enola we hear another EB coal drag leave with 3 U25Cs in charge.
Track 16:  We are at State line Tunnel on Penn Central’s ex B&A line through the Berkshires and we hear a set of 4 U30Cs as they snarl upgrade with the Bow Coal train.
