  • Condition: Generally excellent. Normally with these vases there can be some losses to the gilding. The gilt design is raised and tends to have a sharp edge which could easily chip or get worn away. I looked at this carefully and find that there is almost no loss at all. There are a couple of very small losses but generally speaking it is terrific.

    Description

Royal Flemish was a product of Mt. Washington and made during the 19th century. Royal Flemish was a type of Victorian glassware that for many years has been extremely popular. This is most definitely one of the featured examples of Royal Flemish and has always been highly sought after. It is decorated with 4 snow geese in flight against a large sunburst with surrounding panels of blue and teal separated by raised bright gold gilding and stars. The collar is decorated with gold gilded stylized flowers and leaves surrounded by three winged Griffins all set against an amethyst background. The reverse of the vase is decorated with gilded stars between colored panels. A similar vase is pictured in “Mt. Washington Art Glass” by Betty Sisk, page 184. This vase retains a tag indicating that it was at one time part of the famous Jones Museum, which was at one-time located in Raymond, Maine. The tags reads, “Jones Museum Exhibit 19”. The Jones Museum, put together by Dorothy Lee Jones, was a wondrous display of all forms of early glass and porcelain, as well as, Victorian and early 20th century items. Jones was an authority on most forms of rare glassware and china; not only had a museum but frequently did special seminars and exhibitions.  SIZE: 14-1/2” h.
