NEWLY MADE DVD of exclusively SOO* scenes in and around Northern Illinois and Eastern Iowa. Well shot and edited. Newly transferred to DVD.
Extended sequences of switching at Davis Jct, Savanna/Sabula, Nahant and many l o n g chase scenes with pacing.
Photos are actual screen grabs from the video.
*some scenes are also included on the 1988, 1989, 1990 and 1991-93 DVDs sold separately. In most cases however, the sequences on this DVD are extended versions of those previously released or all new "rediscovered" footage.

Here are
some
highlights and road numbers/specific scenes on this 2 hour DVD;
Lone SD60 6024 leads an EB stack train into Davis Junction. IL
SD40 742 and SD40-2 6601 lead an EB freight through the yard at Savanna. Seen crossing diamonds, overhead from the Rt84 bridge looking west and east. Both bridge views offer panoramic looks at what was left of the huge yard tracks in this 1988 sequence.
Lots of rolling stock still parked. Old trestle highway bridge still standing.
1990 Soo detours over CNW at Nelson, Il. CNW GP9 4478 leads  Soo 769 and 745 WB at NQ after waiting for a CNW freight (also WB) to pass. Soo train has SOO caboose #1.
Another detour on CNW at Nelson has CNW SD50 (7010) leading 4 Soo SD's Eastbound under the coaling tower. This Soo train also has a caboose.
Switching action at Clinton, IA  just opposite of the CNW yard office on SOO trackage; Soo MP15 1531 (A "Bandit") waits as a BN local w/ GP38 2172 w/BN caboose pass. #1531 is WB and back out onto the main within 30 sec of the BN caboose passing.
SD40a 6410 and SD40 748 snake through Clinton riverfront city area, up across the CNW and are chased all the way to Nahant along Rt67 WB (geographic south). This train has Southern  Pacific caboose 4669 and pacing is obstruction free from the sunroof of my '85 Mustang.  Lots of curves and the Mississippi river in the background on this summer's day in the late 80's. Total 10 minute sequence as we parallel the diesels, hang back to get the waycar, slow through LeClaire and finally pull into Davenport and see the train backing onto a track at Nahant yard with more Soo power sitting nearby.
Chasing an EB from around Kingston, Il, several miles pacing from Rt 72 and thru Hampshire, along Fox River and getting to Bensenville before the freight but
accidentally
driving through the back entrance.
I shot lots of SP and Cotton Belt power in yard and bandit switchers shoving cars.
New SD60 6060 was sitting out along the side street.
Other scenes;
Rio Grande tunnel motor leading an EB into Savanna with SP and Cotton Belt power.
Road engines switching Sabula wye and preparing to head east. This train is chased to Mt Carroll area.
Bandits leading the hot late afternoon TOFC train under the ex-IC at Forreston (extended sequence).
More Davis Jct scenes; many meets and a few glimpses of the Track Inn. The restaurant that was located fully between the northwest wye trackage.
EB chase from Clinton, through Sabula and Savanna. Great river scenes and Illinois countryside. Finally ends with a slow order at Leaf River, Il
Lots of surprises too; friendly crews, many waycars and all seasons.
No background music or narration- great natural sound with quiet locations- few other railfans around...RARE exclusive footage- much lost or forgotten for over 30 years.

The ALL CNW includes extended sequences from the 1988-1993 DVDs, (left off the original edit in the late 80's; waycars, longer runbys, single grabs of one train or "orphan" elements. Also longer scenes (and audio) of the Presidential F units as they ran special trips out to the wye at Nelson.

There's lots of bright crisp video from all seasons and good audio of horns, engines, jointed rail, etc. What you won't see is also interesting; no ditch lights for instance, crews without safety vests, vintage automobiles, no cell phones.
